ALL LESSONS ARE PRACTICAL, DYNAMIC AND ENGAGING AND PUPILS WORK TO DEVELOP THEIR PERFORMANCE SKILLS IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT STYLES.

Every pupil is encouraged to participate in live performance - in lessons, small 'sharings' and as part of large-scale productions.

Classes in the Junior Department focus on developing the children's creative and physical skills in order to introduce them to dance and drama. Projects include: fairy tales, Julia Donaldson stories, machines, dinosaurs and the circus.

In the Middle and Senior Departments, pupils develop skills in a range of techniques and approaches, focusing predominantly on devising and performing. Projects in the Middle Department include: school life, winter dances, superheroes and Trestle mask work. Senior Department pupils work on a trust and friendship project, shipwrecked scenes, and create modernised witches scenes inspired by Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Pupils in Year 7 and the Top Form continue to develop their devising, performance and teamwork skills as part of their Drama curriculum. They have the opportunity to attend live theatre performances and participate in workshops with professional actors and directors.

In addition to curriculum classes, children from Year 3 upwards are able to enrol in our extra-curricular LAMDA course. Pupils work towards LAMDA Solo/Duo or Group Acting examinations taught by professional actors.

The department hosts a popular after school Street Dance Club taught by NSG Performing Arts for those in Years 2 to 4. Pupils in Year 3 upwards are able to volunteer to participate in a lunchtime activity to learn and perform a dance medley at Fun Night.

All children in Year 5 upwards are able to audition for roles in the annual school production and everyone who chooses to participate is allocated a role. In recent years we have staged physical theatre versions of The BFG, Hansel and Gretel and Around the World in 80 Days. We have also put on musical theatre productions of The Sound of Music and the Junior versions of Cats and Mulan.  This year's production of Lion King Jr was a phenomenal success and thoroughly enjoyed by all 110 children involved in the cast and crew!
