JUNIOR DEPARTMENT NEWS

This week in Reception

On Wednesday afternoon, Reception had a fantastic time at Forest School. Even though it was raining the children were excited to be outside. There were many fun activities including exploring the mud kitchen, which was perfect for the rainy afternoon! children enjoyed den making and the log dogs were a favourite activity too. There were lots of inquisitive questions about the new paths that had been created due to the storm and the change of environment. Well done Reception!

Reception World Book Day 2022

This week in Year 1

This week we have enjoyed diving into books.

On Tuesday we went to the Grove Theatre to watch an adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s book ‘ The Smeds and the Smoos’. It was a fantastic, interactive show and we loved it!  Have a look at the pictures below!

Then, on Thursday we had fun dressing up as our favourite characters for ‘World Book Day’. Have a look out for us in our amazing costumes in the Whole School World Book Day gallery.

Have a lovely weekend!

This week in Year 2

Books, Books, Books

It’s been a week of (mostly) all things books in Year 2.

We started the week by using some well known and loved books to write multiple choice book quizzes which we tried out on our classes. They really tested our book knowledge and helped with understanding that it doesn’t matter if we don’t always get it right. We gave talks about our favourite books ranging from fiction books such as Winnie the Witch, Dave Pigeon and Dogman and non-fiction books including Romans, A Weather Encyclopaedia and  How Super Cool Tech Works. We wrote our own poetry and enjoyed watching clips of Michael Rosen performing some of his very entertaining poems.

On World Book Day we loved sharing our costumes, dusted off our ABCD multiple choice cards and tested out our book knowledge again with the Library Quiz (thank you Mrs Ford!) and of course enjoyed choosing a book at the much anticipated book sale. Well done, Year 2, your love of reading has really shone through this week.

A whole year Forest School was a real treat as was squelching through the mud! We thought about why birds migrate and their life cycle. Team work was the order of the day: we sorted pictures of birds we found into whether they were herbivores, omnivores or carnivores and then worked together to make nests that would keep eggs safe. We couldn’t reach up high so had to be inventive about where we sighted the nests. Mrs Le Bas was extremely impressed with our co-operation.  Have a look at our photos below:
