JUNIOR DEPARTMENT NEWS

This week in Reception

Reception have really enjoyed their topic on Growth over the last two weeks. We have planted sunflowers seeds and cress (egg and cress sandwiches perhaps?!). Our young gardeners have been busy digging and weeding to prepare our flower and vegetable beds in the Outdoor Classroom where we will be growing sweet peas, cosmos, pansies, radishes, lettuce, spinach, chard and strawberries. Watch out Chelsea Flower Show – here we come!

This week in Year 1

This week, Year 1 have been learning about fractions. We have learnt about what half means and used this knowledge to halve shapes and numbers. We used the outdoor environment to create shapes and then the children filled just half of them with natural objects. Back in the classroom, we have also used a variety of practical equipment to practice halving amounts.

Have a look at these creative sessions in our photos below.

This week in Year 2

This week Year 2 enjoyed a history walk of Beechwood Park. Together they journeyed back to over 900 years ago to find out about Beechwood Park before it became a school. Year 2 loved exploring the secret passage way and finding out lots of facts including that d’Angelo Barbetti took 3 years to carve the wooden doors in the Great Hall.

Did you know that Ann Saunders and Edward Sebright put their initials on the drainpipes and 1702 which is the date they built the front of the house? Year 2 can point these out now.

We have attached some photos so that you can see their walk below.Year 2 Beechwood History Walk May 2022

Last week, Year 2 tried their hands at sewing , and they have been creating bookmarks using their new running stitch skills, as you can see below!
