Message from Mrs Clarke – ATOM LEARNING LIVE LESSONS
With the Easter holiday fast approaching, I wanted to make you aware of the live lessons that ATOM will be running. The full timetable is here.
They’re accessible to all of our Year 6, 7 and Top Form pupils as they all have an ATOM Prime account provided through school. Top Form are beyond this level now but Year 6 and 7 should find them very useful. I recommend the Creative Writing course and the ‘Get Ahead for Y7’ course – very handy for keeping Year 6 brains ticking! Parents just need to click on the relevant course to register their child to attend the event.

News from the Maths Department
Year 6 have been using their detective skills in maths this week. 6A were investigating what makes a Year 6 pupil. They designed questionnaires, asked their peers and are presenting their findings. Great investigators. #passwordEmil.
Top Form Future Skills
Top A worked together in groups to complete Mrs Clarke’s problem solving puzzle based on Emil and the Detectives, the puzzle included code breaking questions for our budding detectives.
Year 6 PSHE
Year 6 pupils spent time interviewing teaching and non teaching staff at Beechwood, asking them questions about their experience of the school and the Beechwood community. Each pupil prepared a set of questions in advance and moved round the room asking different adults their questions. This experience was invaluable as they learnt to converse with people they don’t normally come in contact with on a daily basis, building their communication and confidence skills. Everybody really enjoyed this exercise.
Year 6 Gymnastics
Well done to Year 6 who have been working on their group and partner balances in gymnastics this week – activities like this are great lessons in teamwork and co-operation, and demand great balance, full extension and body tension. Some great efforts all round! Well done, everyone!
Chess Competition
The Beechwood Chess Competition has reached a climax this week.
Congratulations to Matthew D (6AL), Benedict B (7LHH), Matt F (7LD) and Wilfred O (7LD) who made is through the qualifying stages to do battle in the semi finals.
The final was then played between Wilfred and Benedict – a tight match but Benedict emerged a worthy winner.
Congratulations to everyone who took part – we look forward to making this a regular event in the School calendar.
