Destination of Leavers

Whilst the destination of leavers may not be an immediate interest for parents whose children join Beechwood in the Woodlands Nursery or the Junior Department, preparation for 11+ and 13+ exams comes around only too quickly!

The School is well prepared for this, and we make it clear to parents that staff are available at an early stage to advise them on the most suitable senior schools for their child and to assist with their applications, including preparation for 11+ and 13+  entrance exams as required.

We are very experienced in this area and have positive relationships with all the local schools as well as many of those that are further afield. Pupils from Beechwood go on to a wide variety of high quality schools, both independent and in the state sector, day and boarding, some co-educational and some single sex, some local and some much further away.  Like parents, our greatest wish is that our pupils move onto the school that is right for THEM.

From a very long list, here are some examples of our pupils’ destinations in recent years:

Abbot’s Hill Aldenham St Albans School
St Columba’s College Bedford Berkhamsted
Eton Haberdashers’ (Boys and Girls) Haileybury
Harrow Merchant Taylors’ St Albans High School
Oundle Queenswood Roundwood School
Rugby St George’s Uppingham
Bradfield College Cranleigh Stowe

Conversations between the School and parents and pupils start early; we discuss preferred choices of school, realistic expectations and how the School can support each family’s choices.

Every year, Beechwood pupils are successful at gaining scholarships to many schools – 2022 alone saw successes in Music, Drama, Sport and Academic scholarships to St Albans School. Queenswood, Haileybury, Oundle and Berkhamsted.
